.⋆。⋆༶⋆˙⊹ Kim Jung Gi was a South Korean comic artist whose work is instantly recognizable. His drawings are filled with impossible details, complex perspectives, and fascinating character designs. He was able to perform live illustrations at incredible speed, with subject matter varying from superheroes, artillery, animals, and cultural references.
Some of Kim Jung Gi’s clients included Marvel and DC Comics. In his career, he published six sketchbooks equating to over 4,000 pages worth of drawings!
It’s a shame because I only found out about Kim Jung Gi after his death in 2022, which inspired me to do more research on his art. I soon found out that one extraordinary fact: he drew without a reference! Kim Jung Gi was born with an extremely powerful memory, and during his time in the South Korean army, he memorized the structures of many different weapons and vehicles. These artillery elements appeared frequently in his work; see if you can spot them!
I give free rein to my brushstrokes to bring to life any object, human, environment, or feeling, however raw or undesirable.
