The influences for Yoshitomo Nara’s work range from his childhood, music, studying abroad in Germany, and literature. However, one of the strongest influences on his signature style was the counterculture movement of the 1960s. Anti-war sentiment, environmental issues, and punk rock are channeled throughout his works.

There’s just something so nostalgic and cerebral that draws me, along with many others, to Yoshitomo Nara’s work. I would highly recommend checking out more of his works online, at the MoMA, or at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art!
